Updated Touch, New Apps... I hope

The new 2.0 firmware for the iPhone and iPod Touch launched yesterday along with the new iPhone. The coolest thing about the new firmware is that Apple has coincidentally launched the new App Store on iTunes. You can now download native apps developed exclusively for the iPhone and the iPod Touch. Apps are like programs on a computer. They let you do all sorts of different things. Prior to this update, you would have had to "jailbreak" (hack) your device in order to install these apps, which were developed by anybody who had the know-how.

Yesterday, I browsed some of the apps on the App Store on iTunes and found a lot of them to be really interesting and useful. I downloaded about 10 of them including Pandora, AIM, Myspace, Facebook, and a couple of games among other things.
For the past hour I've been in the process of updating my Touch to the new 2.0 firmware (for $10). I was contemplating holding off on the upgrade, but I figured ten bucks really isn't bad for all the new Apps I get to play with until I get my hands on my own iPhone.
As we speak, iTunes is in the process of putting all my dope music and videos and everything else back on my newly updated Touch. I'll have an update shortly.

iPhone Craziness

Ok. First off, I DO want the new 3G iPhone. I mean I really do. But there are no funds in the gadget account right now. As it is, I do own an iPod Touch, which I do love tremendously. I send and receive email on it via a wi-fi connection, I check weather, I peruse blogs via Google Reader on it thanks to it's integrated Safari browser, I play MP3's and movies, I store and share pictures, I back up contacts in case my phone dies, I buy music through the integrated iTunes Store, and a host of other really cool stuff. I plan on updating my Touch with the 2.0 Firmware and I've already started downloading some really cool FREE apps from the Apple App Store.

As I was reading one of my favorite blogs, jkOnTheRun, there was a post about the craziness that is iPhone 3G release day. Apparently people were lined up crazy style at every Apple Store everywhere. At the store the author (James Kendrick) went to, he saw about 50 people standing in line, some of whom had already gone to another store that had even longer lines. People working at the store said they had only received 20 8GB iPhones and 20 16GB iPhones. That's insane. They (the fruit company) know what they're doing. It's just like when Microsoft (arch nemesis of the Apple folks) shipped small quantities of the XBOX 360 when they were first released. It's a tactic they use to generate hype.

But when it comes to the iPhone, I believe the hype.

Pyramid Scheme

So I was thinking about mausoleums recently. If you don't know, a mausoleum is one of those big cement things that rich or important people get buried in. If you've passed by a cemetery, you've seen them. I was wondering if I'd get to be buried in one of those someday. I was thinking that this is way cooler and more interesting than a simple headstone. But then I had a breakthrough. I could commission the construction of a pyramid just like my ancient Egyptian "ancestors." Hahahaha. Don't you love how black folk always claim the ancient Egyptians as ancestors. It's kind of like how people say they're ancestors were a royal family or the princess of a tribe. They're never just the village idiot.

On second thought, I don't think I need a pyramid, or even a mausoleum.

Knight Rider GPS nav system!!!

A company called Mio has just released one of the coolest gadgets I've seen in a long time. It's a GPS system that uses the voice of William Daniels, the guy who originally did the voice of K.I.T.T. on Knight Rider in the 80's!!! He's also the guy who played Mr. Feeny on Boy Meets World. So you can basically turn your humdrum ride into your own personal Knight Industries Two Thousand.

"Suckas Break Like Turbo and Ozone"

Extra credit if you can place that quote.

I don't know if the rest of you 80s babies did too, but my brother and I had Breakin' on VHS tape and watched it a few times every week for YEARS.

We'd put it on, move the furniture to the side and practice our six-step, top rock, backspins.

Basically, Breakin was the shizzy. Our original tape has been lost for years. It's probably in a landfill in Jersey by now. So I decided to relive my youth through the magic of Youtube.

You know what I realized after watching some of it? Turbo and Ozone look GAY AS HELL. Ok. I'm not saying it was gay. I'm just saying there was a lot more fruity stares and hand holding than I remember. haha.
You can even see them "Do the Homie" during the first battle scene. Peep it:

"I'd burn any girl that put her face in front of me." HAHA. Suspect...
BUT this is a classic scene:

She was my first love.

Anyway... Another classic, the broom scene:

I tried that ish a million times and couldn't figure out why it didn't work.

Peep Van Damme as an extra. This was out in '84 before he was the Muscles from Brussels.

Last but not least, 2 dope scenes from Breakin 2:
(also gay, but still dope)

THIS IS STILL THE FRESHEST ISH EVER"

Like a Virgin

Wow. This is interesting. How do I write my first blog post without sounding like a completely boring dweeb. (Yeah, I said dweeb.) Actually, this isn't technically my first time blogging. I've blogged randomly here and there on Myspace. But this is my first post on my official blog here at Blogger.

If you're wondering where the name came from, it's not nearly as clever as you might think. I started playing around with electronic music production when I was in high school. I went through a few "stage" names. I won't torture you and show my lack of youthful imagination, but one of them was MixMaster D. Yeah I know. But eventually I settled with DJ Mellow D. It fits my personality perfectly, and most people call me D rather than Dimitri anyway.
I'm still doing the music thing as a hobby. I'm a teacher by profession at an elementary school on the West side of Chicago.
We'll see how this blogging thing goes.

Oh... and here's a flashback for you guys:
